Like Bob Marley said: “one good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain”. Here, all the artists of the Montreux Jazz Festival are connected to the bands they have been playing with during the last 51 years. As a matter of fact, this network mixes both artists, at the center of the image, and theirs associated bands, in white, at the border. The colors help to apprehend in which manner the 10548 musicians are connected to the 1658 groups currently referenced in the festival’s archive. Interestingly, the current record holders of the number of bands are, Herbie Hancock and Stanley Clarke with 13 and 12 different bands respectively. Switching on to the band perspective, with 80 members, the Orchestre National de Lyon is the largest one to date, followed by the 67 members of The Atlanta Superchoir, and a Swiss orchestra, the Pepe Lienhard Big Band with its 46 musicians.
