The cycle of inventions is constantly renewing itself: past works serve as a starting point to foster innovation and discover how to shape the future. In this network, reproduced identically in blue and gold, connections between EPFL researchers who wrote patents together during their work are illustrated. Each node represents a scientist who contributed to the creation of intellectual property potentially usable in the industry. Let us note that the reach of an invention could be so innovative that it becomes necessary to protect it in several countries (or jurisdictions)! This information is visually encoded in the thickness of a link which is proportional to the number of patents filed by two co-inventors worldwide.
